7 Habits of Highly Effective People
“That which we persist in doing becomes easier - not that the nature
of the task has changed, but our ability to do has increased.”
— Emerson
This week we learned a lot about the 7 habits of highly effective people. It provided a lot of insight into things that I know I need to work on. Such as time management, being proactive and keeping the end in mind. I am all about now, and what needs to happen right in this point of time.
Habit 1 - Be proactive.
Being proactive means to "actively choose what our response will be in any situation rather than to react blindly. " It was said to be the granddaddy of all of the 7 habits. We need to take care of our life and take the lead.
Habit 2 - Begin with the end in mind.
The main idea that was provided said that "beginning with the end in mind means using an image or paradigm of your character at the end of your life as a frame of reference or criterion by which everything is examined. Each part of your life should be examined in the context of the whole - the long-term view." It gave a great example of what it means. Visualize our own funeral and write your own eulogy. What kind of things would you want to be said about you?
Habit 3 - Put first things first.
"The heart of effective personal time management is to spend the maximum time possible doing important jobs in a non-urgent atmosphere that increases your efficiency." It listed thing is order of importance.
- Important & urgent
- Important but not urgent
- Urgent but not importan t
- Not urgent and not important
Habit 4 - Think win/win
"The most effective way to work with other people is to structure a
win/win relationship focused on results, not methods. "
Habit 5 - Seek first to understand,
then to be understood.
The main goal for this habit is to "seek first to understand the other person, then to
try and be understood yourself. "
Habit 6- Synergize.
It means that the whole is greater than the sum. "Synergy is the true test and manifestation of all the other habits
combined.
Habit 7 - Sharpen the saw.
This is when we need to regroup, sharpen our 4 dimensions which are.
- Physical Exercise
- Spiritual
- Mental dimension
- Social/emotions dimensions.
We need to learn, to commit and to do in order to make a public victory. We need to have trust in our self and it will help us in the market place.
